People and Place. These things are invariable linked with music for Katy Wehr: singing along with her brother and sister to the pianola in the basement, church hymn-sings, the shared precision and joy of choirs and musical theatre or just making harmonies with mom in the kitchen. Growing up along the banks of the Minnehaha Creek near Minneapolis, Katy found lots to sing about and she was always unconsciously breaking the no-singing-at-the-dinner-table rule.

After a few years with a band called Porch Light, Katy moved to Vancouver, BC in 2003 for a Christianity and the Arts masters program at Regent College. The ocean, mountains and nostalgia for her native lakes and woods filled her music with vivid landscapes. These became the backdrop for stories about struggle and resolution in The Smell of Rain, released March 31, 2005. The songs became fully alive through the help of many talented Canadian and American musicians.

Songs from The Smell of Rain have been featured on numerous radio shows and podcasts across the US and Europe including BBC Northern Ireland's Rhythm and Soul, BBC Southern Counties The Sunday Breakfast Show, National Public Radio's Women in Music with Laney Goodman and Public Radio in Minnesota, Wisconsin, North Carolina, New York, Washington and California. The song "Minnehaha" from The Smell of Rain has also been used as daily theme music for The Hugh Hewitt Show (nationally syndicated talk radio) since November of 2005.

Along with Americana Folk music, Katy writes classical settings for voice and cello as well as fun and silly songs for kids. She performs in concert and at churches around Minneapolis and the Midwest and has done mini tours around Seattle/Tacoma, WA and Sydney, Australia.
