This album is a series of conversations. Some songs are the settings of others’ words and some are stories told from another’s point of view. Music always interprets. In placing these words to music I entered discussions with these writers or characters asking, “Is this what you meant?” or “What if it happened like this?” Listen and put in your two cents worth.

Music can sometimes fixate on either pain or easy answers but The Smell of Rain explores the space between the two. With strong, clear vocals and an Americana sound that leans now toward folk, now toward alt-country, Katy Wehr uses sparse lyrics and natural imagery to tell stories about loneliness, fear, forgiveness and the stirrings of hope.
